About Project
Tha Mine Thit School is located over 3.5 hours away by car from Mandalay, in a remote area of Thabeikkyin Township with poor road access. Most of the students’ parents are gold miners, and when mining work declines, they must rely on whatever temporary labor they can find, living under very difficult and harsh conditions.
The head monk arrived in this region at the age of 20 and, in 2004, founded Tha Maine Thit School with the aim of providing middle school education to children who otherwise had no access. In this area, many young girls, after completing primary school, cannot continue their studies and are instead forced into labor or early marriage due to the lack of nearby educational opportunities.
The head monk worked tirelessly, delivering sermons and collecting donations to build additional school facilities. Although the school now offers education up to Grade 10, the number of students has grown beyond the capacity of the existing classrooms and dormitories.
With the donations received, construction began on a one-story school building with six classrooms. However, due to limited funding, the construction could not be fully completed. To support the school, additional donations were made to finish the building, as well as to provide a two-story girls’ dormitory, a boys’ dormitory, and 31 computers for students.
Notably, the head monk’s efforts extend beyond just his own school — he actively connects other schools in need, such as Kwin Thone Sal, Wet Thay, Phat Shay, Chaung Gyi, Takaung Shwe Pyi, and Aung Zeya, helping introduce them to donors and assisting in transportation and support. Thanks to these efforts, several of these schools have also received much-needed donations.
